We have been working with predator conservation for over 11 years. The current predator conservation project started 7 years ago as a cheetah conservation project. It now conserves all predators on our reserve by providing the landowners with accurate information regarding the predators and helping fund the impact of the predators through tourism.

We monitor and track cheetah, leopard and hyena and are able to answer questions about the impact they are having on the property. If there is an unbalanced state we try to correct this by introducing more prey animals to balance the effects of the predators as well as conduct relocation projects to new reserve etc. We take responsibility for the predators.

Volunteers help us as we manage the reserve and predator projects. The work done by volunteers helps us to reduce costs on the property which is seen as a direct benefit of allowing the predators to stay.

Volunteers can expect to help in the following areas:
• Predator tracking and monitoring
• Reserve management
• Fence checks
• Anti-poaching
• Game capture (seasonal)
• Relocation projects
• Assisting roan and sable breeding project
• Wildlife habituation

A typical day plan for volunteers:
7:00 Reserve management (fence and waterhole checks)
10:00 Tracking cheetah or other predators
12:00 Lunch
14:30 Wildlife habituation (buffalo) or reserve work
17:00 Signal checks for radio collared animals
18:30 Dinner
20:00 Night drive (3 per week)

As we are a working reserve the plan could change at any point.
